Nora Jean (Doubek) Shorock, 58, died April 7 at her son’s home in Lawrence. Born Feb. 15, 1953, at Pratt, she was the daughter of Van and Ellen (Hamar) Doubek. She earned a bachelor’s degree in 1974 from Pittsburg State University. On July 4, 1976, she married Donald Walter Shorock in Pratt. He predeceased her on Dec. 2, 2010. They moved to Great Bend in 1977. After a few years as a teacher, she worked in medical transcription and records for Central Kansas Medical Center and later independently.
Mrs. Shorock was a member of United Methodist Women, and a devotee of folk music offerings throughout the Midwest and in Newfoundland, Canada.
She is survived by one son, Thomas Alan Shorock of Lawrence and his wife Kelly Peterson; a brother, Robert Doubek of Denver, Colo.; and a sister, Carol Lewis and husband Larry of Castle Pines North, Colo.
A memorial service will be held at 10 a.m. on April 28 at Trinity United Methodist Church in Great Bend. There will be no viewing as cremation has taken place. In lieu of flowers, memorials are requested directly to the Barton County Arts Council.
