Norma Mae Hammeke

Norma Mae Hammeke, 91, passed away April 4, 2023, at her home in Great Bend, surrounded by her loving family. She was born on Sept. 16, 1931, to Arza and Marie (Pekarek) Lamoree. She married Maurice Hammeke on March 2, 1954, in Great Bend. 

A long time Great Bend resident, Norma was a customer service representative at Sears, specializing in maintenance service contracts. She was a member of Prince of Peace Parish at St. Patrick Catholic Church, Barton County Historical Society and was the former Executive Director of the United Way of Central Kansas. Being passionate about music, she was a dedicated member of St. Patrick Choir for over 50 years and served on the Golden Belt Community Concert Association Board. Norma belonged to several bridge clubs and enjoyed fellowship with friends at the Senior Center and American Legion. 

Survivors include, her husband Maurice Hammeke of Great Bend; her children, Marla Redburn and husband Dennis of Great Bend, Lynda Ford and husband Earl of Olathe, Vince Hammeke and wife Tina of Overland Park and JoElla Tobin and husband Bill of Lawrence; ten grandchildren, Dustin Sullivan, Trilby Haller (Rob), Colby Sullivan (Brandy), Lynzee Al-Hakeem (David), Taylor Ford, Cressa Felts (Justin), Jensyn Ford (Matt Gaborie), Andrew Hammeke (Taellor), Ryan Hammeke and Adam Hammeke (Kasey); 25 great grandchildren; and two great great grandchildren, with one more to arrive in August. She was preceded in death by her parents; a son, Ron Hammeke; a brother, Floyd E. Lamoree; and a sister, Irene Pack. 

Visitation will be held from 3 to 8 p.m., Wednesday, April 5, 2023, with an Altar Society Rosary at 4 p.m. and Parish Rosary at 7 p.m. Funeral service will be held at 1:30 p.m., Thursday, April 6, 2023, at Bryant Funeral Home, with Father Prakash Kola presiding. Interment will be in the Great Bend Cemetery. Memorials have been designated to the Golden Belt Community Concert Association, Barton County Historical Society or Prince of Peace Parish, in care of Bryant Funeral Home.
