Norman Morgan 1933 - 2012

SMITH CENTER - Norman Morgan, 78, died Feb. 25 at the Smith County Memorial Hospital. Born on March 23, 1933 in Gravity, Iowa, he was the son of Ivan and Beulah (Downs) Morgan. He worked for the United Sates Postal Service in Gothenburg, Neb. and was promoted to postmaster in Polk, Neb. and Belgrade, Neb.

Mr. Morgan served in the United States Navy during the Korean Conflict and Vietnam War. He retired from the Navy after 26 years of service.

Survivors include his wife Kathryn of Smith Center; a daughter Vikki Morgan of Smith Center; two sons, Rod of Great Bend and Rick of Waterloo, Iowa; two sisters, JoAnne Perry of Charinton, Iowa and Sharon Smith of Clarinda, Iowa; and five grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; and a brother Richard Morgan.

Celebration of life services will be held at lO:30 a.m. on Wednesday at the First Christian Church in Smith Center with Pastor Linda Kemp officiating. Inurnment with military honors will be held at 3 p.m. on Wednesday at the Kansas Veterans’ cemetery in Wakeeney. There will be no visitation. The family requests memorial contributions be made to American Diabetes Association of Kansas or Gideon’s International, in care of the mortuary.
