ELLINWOOD — Pastor Jeffrey Frakes, 47, passed away at his home in Ellinwood, on June 13, 2015. Born on June 30, 1967, in Independence, Mo., he was the son of Ronald K. and Joan (Burson) Frakes. On July 13, 1996, he married Mary Spillman in Wichita. Originally from the Wichita (Goddard) area he was a resident of Ellinwood for the past 8 years where he was the minister of St. John Lutheran Church. He was also minister of Grace Lutheran Church in Lyons for the past two years as well. He previously worked as a project manager and airplane mechanic for Learjet. He received his Masters degree in Divinity from Concordia Seminary in St. Louis, Mo. He loved motorcycles, music, firearms, and the outdoors but dedicated himself to his family and his church most of all.
Survivors include his wife, Mary Frakes of Ellinwood; mother, Joan Frakes (Ralph Buchanan), of Independence, Mo.; three daughters, Elizabeth Frakes, Sarah Frakes, and Emily Frakes, all of Ellinwood; a sister, Cheri Russell of Wichita; a niece, Katie Russell; and a nephew, Jacob Russell. He was preceded in death by his father, Ronald K. Frakes.
Funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. on Wednesday at St. John Lutheran Church in Ellinwood with District President Pastor Keith Kohlmeier presiding. Burial will follow at the Lakin-Comanche District Cemetery in Ellinwood. Visitation will be from 1 to 7 p.m. today at St. John Lutheran Church with family present from 5 to 7 p.m. Memorials are suggested to St. John Lutheran Church in Ellinwood, St. John Child Development Center in Ellinwood, or Grace Lutheran Church in Lyons in care of the funeral home.
