STAFFORD — Paul William Chansler, 87, went to be with His Lord and Savior on May 14, 2017, at Leisure Homestead in St. John. Born Dec. 29, 1929, in Hammond, Ind., he was the son of Lester VeLoyd and Viola Beck Chansler. On Dec. 24, 1950, he married Mary Sharon Hall in Lyons. She preceded him in death on July 11, 2015. He was a grocery man and butcher most of his adult life working for Mammel’s and Jack & Jill stores in Hutchinson. In 1985 he became owner and manager of Paul’s Grocery in Stafford until his retirement in 1998. He was a lifetime Republican and very patriotic.
Mr. Chansler was a Korean War Veteran serving with the United States Army National Guard at Ansbach, Germany, 18th F.A. Group Operations. He was a lifetime Lutheran and longtime member of the Zion Lutheran Church in Hutchinson.
Survivors include six children, sons, Paul (Bill) Chansler II and fiance Pat Becker of McKinney, Texas, Mike (Marilyn) Chansler of Great Bend, John (Linda) Chansler of Hutchinson, Jim (Shari) Chansler of Stafford and Jeff Chansler of Stafford; a daughter, Julie (David) Rewerts of Stafford; 13 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by a daughter-in-law, Lois Chansler; infant grandson Jeremiah Chansler; grandson Josh Nienke; and two sisters, Mary Bruegger and Bernice Bundy.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. on Thursday at Minnis Chapel in Stafford with his nephew Pastor Kevin Potts presiding. Burial will be at Peace Creek Cemetery with Military Honors. The family will receive friends from 5-7 p.m. on Wednesday at Minnis Chapel. The family request contributions to the Legion Riders Chapter 131, Stafford sent in care of the funeral home.
