Pearl Margaret Mater, 96, died Feb. 4 at Great Bend Health and Rehabilitation. She was born Dec. 30, 1914 in Rush County, the daughter of Oliver Jefferson and Julie Marie (Koochel) Crowell.

She married Edward N. Mater Sept. 12, 1933 at Olmitz. He died Dec. 26, 1975. She was a homemaker and seamstress and a former employee of High Plains Mental Development, Hays. Mrs. Mater was a long-time resident of Olmitz, formerly of Hays.

She is survived by: one son Eugene Mater, Olmitz, and fiancee Rose Ann Sipes, Ellis; sister, Dorothy Holopirek, LaCrosse; five grandchildren, Dr. Marie and husband Dr. Joe Summerville, Magnolia, Texas, Sandra and husband Mark Erb of Magnolia, Texas, Carrie Mater, Wichita, Audrey and husband Chad Kirkman, Wichita, and Sarah Mater, Wichita; and one great-grandson, Tyler Erb.

Visitation will be from 9 a.m. until 8 p.m. on Tuesday at Nicholson-Ricke Funeral Home. The wake service will be 7 p.m. Tuesday at Nicholson-Ricke. The Mass of Christian Burial will be on Wednesday at 10:30 a.m. at St. Ann Catholic Church in Olmitz. Father Ultan Murphy will be officiating. Interment will be at St. Ann Cemetery, Olmitz. Memorials may be given to St. Ann Catholic Church or American Alzheimer’s Association in care of Nicholson-Ricke. Condolences may be sent and notice viewed at www.nicholsonrickefh.net.
