Phyllis June McGillivray, 92, passed away May 1, 2023, at her home in Great Bend. She was born Dec. 11, 1930, in Hopewell, Kan., to Ivan and Gertrude Lovell (Bradley) Keen.
Phyllis spent most of her childhood in Hutchinson, where she played basketball and was a Homecoming Queen candidate. She married Glenn Edward McGillivray in June of 1950. To this union there were born four children: Debby, Mike, Sue and Stewart.
A long time Ulysses resident and Postal employee, Phyllis moved to Ellinwood in the early 1980’s, where she was the Postmaster until she retired in 1989. She was baptized and a long-standing member of the Shelton Memorial Christian Church in Ulysses. She enjoyed music of all kinds, singing, dancing and bowling. She especially loved spending time with her family and being very onery with them.
Survivors include, her children, Debby Lambert and husband Frank of Marietta, Okla., Mike McGillivray and his wife Carey of LaCrosse, Sue Levingston and her husband Robert and Stewart McGillivray all of Great Bend; a brother, Kenny Keen and his wife Charlene of Kinsley; three sisters, Karen King of Oklahoma City, Okla., Kathy Wapelhorst of Wichita and Carla Harris of Shawnee, Okla.; a sister in law, Virginia Roberts of Hugoton; 13 grandchildren; 25 great grandchildren; three step grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Glenn McGillivray; a brother, Ivan “Max” Keen; and two sisters, Jody Polly and Madge Pauls.
The Baxendale family was also a part of Phyllis’ life. The family wishes to the thank the doctors, nurses and staff of Golden Belt Home Health & Hospice and Angel Care Home Health. They were amazing and provided amazing care and support.
There will be no visitation as cremation has taken place. A Memorial service will be held at 10 a.m., Saturday, May 20, 2023, at the First Church of the Nazarene in Great Bend, with Pastors Josh and Amy Foster. A private family inurnment will be held at Golden Cemetery in Ulysses at a later date. Memorials have been designated to the First Church of the Nazarene of Great Bend and Shelton Memorial Christian Church of Ulysses, in care of Bryant Funeral Home.
