LYONS — Rae Vivian Zahradnik, 78, died Oct. 8 at Great Bend Regional Hospital. Born July 9, 1935 in Oklahoma City, Okla., she was the daughter of Roy William and Eleanor Mullinix Revell. She was a graduate of Great Bend High School and Fort Hays State University with a bachelor’s degree in education. On June 7, 1959, she married Gordon L. Zahradnik at Wilson. He died on Oct. 8, 2013. A resident of Sterling and Lyons for 50 years, she was a retired teacher at Sterling College and the Wichita School District.
Mrs. Zahradnik was a member of the Ebenezer United Methodist Church, and the United Methodist Women, both in Lyons, Fort Hays State University Half Century Club; P.E.O. in Sterling, Retired Teachers Association, Kansas Water Color Society, and the Rice County Historical Society.
Survivors include a son, Zane and Dawn Zahradnik of Windom; a daughter, April and Brent Brooks of Lucas, Texas; and eight grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, Oct. 14, at the Celebration Centre in Lyons with the Rev. Robert Friesen officiating. Burial will be at 3:30 p.m. at the Wilson City Cemetery. Friends may visit from 2 to 6 p.m. on Sunday at Birzer Funeral Home in Lyons. Memorials are suggested to the Rice County Community Foundation in care of the funeral home.
