Raymond L. Amador, age 84 years, longtime Great Bend resident, passed away at his home in Great Bend on Wednesday morning, April 7, 2021. Ray was born on Sept. 23, 1936 at Ellinwood, Kan. to Santos and Marie (Sanchez) Amador. He was united in marriage to Isabel Ybarra on July 20, 1961 at Great Bend, Kan. He served in the U.S. Air Force for several years. Ray was a bus driver and custodian for USD-428 in Great Bend for nearly 50 years, having worked as custodian both at Great Bend High School and Great Bend Middle School. For many years he and his wife, Isabel ran Ray and Izzy’s BBQ Catering. Ray enjoyed fishing, hunting, and gardening, and loved watching sports and spending time with family – especially his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Ray was of the Jehovah Witness faith.
Survivors include his wife, Isabel Amador of Great Bend, Kan.; two sons, Sheldon (and Tara) Amador and Brian (and Debbie) Amador of Great Bend, Kan.; two daughters, Jennifer (and Wayne) Pickerell of McPherson, Kan. and Leslie Amador (and Kevin Laraby) of Great Bend, Kan.; nine grandchildren; and seven great-grandchilren; one brother Ralph Amador of Great Bend, Kan.; many nieces and nephews. Ray was preceded in death by his parents, one brother John Amador, and two sisters, Margaret Falcon and MaryLou Hernandez.
Cremation has been chosen. A Virtual Memorial Service via Zoom will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, April 17th, 2021 with Michael Espinosa officiating. The Zoom link will be available upon request by emailing the family at rayamadormemorial@gmail.com. A live gathering for family and friends will be held at a later date.
