Rennie L. Burress, 79, passed away Oct. 7, 2020, at Via Christi St. Francis. He was born March 1, 1941, to August and Veta (Gregory) Burress, at Mountainburg, Ark. He married Helen Helfrich on Aug. 21, 1965 in Ellinwood. She survives.
A lifetime Great Bend resident, Rennie was a mechanic, welder, security guard, but mostly a hot roder. He loved racing, building hot rods and carpentry. He especially loved spending time with his family.
Survivors include, his mother, Veta Burress; his wife, Helen Burress of the home; a daughter, Renee Burress of Great Bend; a grandson, Michael Burress; two brothers, Glen Burress of Ellinwood, and Leland McAlister of Larned; and three sisters, Frieda Jobes of Great Bend, Wanda (Ron) Dodson of Hays, Laveta (Larry) Furthmeyer of Gorham. He was preceded in death by his father, August Burress; and a sister, Gloria Barrientez.
There will be no visitation as cremation has taken place. Graveside services with inurnment will be held at 2 p.m., Thursday, Oct. 15, 2020, at Great Bend Cemetery North, with Byron Barreintez presiding. The family requests those in attendance to wear masks and social distance. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials be designated to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital or St. Labre Indian School, in care of Bryant Funeral Home.
