THAILAND — Richard A. Poage passed away in his sleep at his home in Thailand on Jan. 23, with his companion by his side. Born on Sept. 6, 1940, in Great Bend, he was the son of Marion and Irene Poage. Born and raised in Great Bend he worked in the oilfields, like his father, from the age of 17 until retiring from offshore drilling 10 years ago in Thailand. In 1960, he married Sheryl Wheat. They divorced in 1964. In 1968, he married Vicky Campbell while working in Scotland. The divorced in 1975.
Mr. Poage was drafted and served in the United States Army from 1964 to 1967 in Vietnam. He was a lifetime member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars.
Survivors include his companion of 10 years, Lott Rachanee Mongtar of Thailand; a son, Aaron and wife Lucero, grandson Santiago and granddaughter Nina, of Chihuahua, Mexico; a daughter Deena Olson and husband Vincent, and granddaughter Lauren of Mt. Juliet, Tenn.; a sister Marilyn and husband Conrad, of Canon City, Colo.; nieces Jana and husband PJ, and Susan and Savannah Davis, all of Arizona and Leasa and husband Roland, and Isabella and Lealand Reyes, all of Texas.
Funeral services were held on Jan. 25, in Thailand with his companion, son Aaron and close friends attending. He was cremated shortly thereafter. There will be no service in the United States.
