Richard G. Dick Blazek 1931 - 2013

Richard G. “Dick” Blazek, 81, lifelong Great Bend resident, died Oct. 11 at the Hays Medical Center in Hays, after a brief illness. He was born Dec. 25, 1931, at Barton County, to Edward and Bertha Therresa (Kratky) Blazek. He graduated from Stafford County Public Schools in 1946. On Oct. 3, 1955, he married Juanita M. Beliel at Raton, N.M. Dick worked as a plumber for Martin Yager Plumbing and Corrigan Plumbing and Heating for several years, and then worked as propane driver for the Great Bend Co-Op Association for many years prior to his retirement.
Mr. Blazek served in the U.S. Army from November of 1952 to November of 1960. He was a Life Member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles, Aerie #646 of Great Bend.  
Survivors include two daughters, Karen Agnew and her husband Roger of Great Bend, and Patty Gabbard and her husband Glenn of Claflin; four grandchildren, Theresa and Blake Agnew, Dawn Gabbard, and Trudy Martin; two great-grandchildren, Jessie Martin and Abbie Judd; one brother, Eddie Blazek and his wife Mickey of Mission, Texas; nieces and nephews. Dick was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Juanita on Nov. 8, 1995, three sisters and one brother.
Funeral service will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 15, at Charter Funerals in Great Bend, with the Rev. Don Paden officiating. Interment will be in the Great Bend City Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m. Monday at the funeral home. Memorials may be directed to the Golden Belt Humane Society at Great Bend, or the Claflin Emergency Medical Services at Claflin.
