Richard Joseph VonFeldt 1932 - 2016

Richard Joseph VonFeldt, 83, of Council Grove passed away Tuesday, June 21, 2016, at Morris County Hospital. He was born July 25, 1932, in Hays, the son of Joseph and Lena (Bittle) VonFeldt.
He graduated from Great Bend High School and joined the US Army in 1952 and was honorably discharged in 1954. Richard married the love of his life, Caroline Kuntz, on December 28, 1957, in Park Kansas.
He started working as a welder for Sherman Brothers Machine Works, where he was employed for several years, before he opened VonFeldt’s Welding in Great Bend. In 1991, he sold the business, and he and Caroline moved to Council Grove, opening his welding shop in Alta Vista. In 1994, Richard suffered a stroke and was forced into retirement. His favorite past time was fishing, he loved having family and friends for fish fry’s, and always enjoyed giving fish away.
Richard was a member of St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church, the Knights of Columbus, and was a Certified Welder.
He was preceded in death by his parents and seven siblings: Ralph, Rudy, Robert, Ray, Albertine, Pauline and Faye.
Richard is survived by his loving wife, Caroline, of the home; daughters, Renee Flaherty and husband Blaise, of Parker, Colorado and Rachelle Cangiano and husband John, of San Juan Capistrano, California; brother, Roy VonFeldt, of Great Bend; and numerous nieces and nephews.
A Rosary will be recited at 6:30 p.m., Friday, June 24, 2016, at St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church, with a visitation following from 7 to 8.
A Funeral Mass will be at 11 a.m, Saturday, June 25, also to be held at St. Rose. Interment will follow at Calvary Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggest memorial contributions be made to St. Rose Building Fund or Morris County Hospital Foundation. They may be sent in care of Zeiner Funeral Home, PO Box 273, Council Grove, KS 66846.
