Robert "Bob" Shanks, 69, died Jan. 3, 2012, at Hutchinson Regional Medical Center in Hutchinson. He was born Aug. 7, 1942, at Kansas City, Mo., the son of Robert and Constance Isabelle (Gaunt) Caraway. He married Lorraine Andrasek July 21, 1962, at Great Bend. A lifetime Great Bend resident, he was a truck driver, carpenter and meat cutter.
Mr. Shanks was a member of Prince of Peace Parish at St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church, Knights of Columbus, Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 3111, Eagles Aerie No. 646, and American Legion Argonne Post 180, all of Great Bend.
He loved Kansas City Chiefs football, playing pool, fishing, drag racing and watching his grandchildren play sports.
Survivors include his wife, of the home; one son, Robert Shanks Jr. of Sacramento, Calif.; two daughters, Deanna Eldridge and her husband Wally, and Sandy Clanton, both of Great Bend; one brother, Danny Shanks of Kansas City, Mo.; three sisters, Janice Battin of Broken Arrow, Okla., and Elaine Shanks and Kathy Shanks, both of Kansas City, Mo.; seven grandchildren and one great-granddaughter. He was preceded in death by one brother, Pat Caraway, and one grandson, Robbie Shanks.
Vigil service will be at 7:00 p.m. Friday at St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church. Memorial service will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Bryant Funeral Home with Father Don Bedore officiating. Interment will be at Great Bend Cemetery. There will be no visitation as cremation has taken place. Donations to the Robert Shanks Funeral Expense Fund may be made in care of the funeral home.
