Robert R. Turner, 81, of Great Bend, died Sept. 1 at Great Bend Health and Rehabilitation Center, Great Bend. He was born March 30, 1929, at Oskaloosa, Mo., the son of Virgil E. and Annabell (Page) Turner. He married Jolene Bortz on June 21, 1957, at Kinsley. He worked for Kansas Brick and Tile, Hoisington. He was a Great Bend resident for 53 years, coming from Oskaloosa, Mo.

Mr. Turner was a United States Army veteran of the Korean Conflict, where he spent two years as a prisoner of war. He earned the Purple Heart with oak leaf cluster and the Prisoner of War Medal. He was of the Christian faith.

Survivors include his wife, Jolene Turner, of the home; two sons, Kevin Turner and wife Lisa, and Terry Turner and companion Dana Gunzelman, all of Great Bend; three daughters, Carol Boltman and husband Dennis, Cheryl Turner and companion David Keeler, and Sharon Napolitano, all of Great Bend; a sister, Doris Whithorn of Hoisington; six brothers, Jim Turner and Jack Turner, both of Arcadia, Charles Turner of Raytown, Mo., Carl Turner of Pittsburg, Bill Turner of Fort Scott and Junior Turner of Arma; eight grandchildren, Travis Boltman and wife Brooke, Krista Boltman and companion Bobby Shreeve, Tracie Kalivoda and husband Steve, Greg Turner and wife Rashelle, Tyler Turner, Taylor Turner, Katherine Turner and Jon Turner; and five great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by one brother, Jerry Turner, and one sister, Barbara Howell.

Funeral service will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Bryant Funeral Home, with the Rev. William F. Johnson officiant. Interment will be at Great Bend Cemetery. Visitation will be from 1 to 9 p.m. today at the funeral home. Donations are suggested to a memorial for the First Christian Church Building Fund, in care of the funeral home.
