ENGLEWOOD, Colo. — Robert Scott Allen, age 63, died following a short illness and complications of paraplegia in Englewood, Colo.
Robert, known as Bob to his family, was born on Oct. 20, 1958 to Robert (Bud) and Betty (Clement) Allen in Great Bend, Kan. Robert graduated from Great Bend High School in 1976 where he excelled as a student. He enjoyed tent camping, family vacations taken to various parts of the U.S. He was a member of Boy Scout Troop 156, achieving the rank of Eagle Scout. Robert continued his education at Grinnell College and transferred to University of Kansas where he received his Bachelor’s Degree. He earned his Master’s Degree in Computer Science at the University of Colorado. Robert worked as an Actuary, a Math Professor and a Software Programmer during his career. He lived in Northern Ky., Cincinnati, Ohio, Brooklyn, N.Y. and then returned to Denver, Colo.
Robert grew to love the adventure of hiking, climbing, and biking through family travels and his many adventures in Boy Scouts at Philmont Scout Ranch in N.M. and other locations. In 2005, Robert suffered a fall and was a T10 paraplegic as a result. He loved riding a handcycle in the mountains of Colorado. He continued to work as a Software Programer at Craig Hospital research department and was a valued member of the team.
Robert is survived by his mother, Betty Allen, and sister, Denise Allen Simon and brother-in-law, David Simon of Mooresville. N.C. and his nieces, Chelsea and Sarah Simon, as well as several friends. He was preceded in death by his father, Robert Wallis Allen and his sister, Marcia Allen Kimbley.
