MOORSEVILLE, N.C. — Robert Wallis Allen, 87, died peacefully on March 18, 2014 in Mooresville, N.C.
He is by career, of 66 years, an oilfield supply salesman and manager having worked for National Supply and starting several companies of his own including A&W Supply and later Allen Enterprises in Great Bend.
“Bud” grew up in Crocker, Mo. and served during World War II with the 902 Army Air Corp Airation Engineers. Upon discharge he moved to Russell to work for his uncle, and soon afterwards found employment with National Supply. The family moved to Great Bend in 1956.  
Mr. Allen was a member and served as an officer in professional organizations KIOGA and OPI. In 2002, he was inducted into the Kansas Oil and Gas Hall of Fame. He was a long-time member of First Southern Baptist Church of Great Bend where he served as a children’s worker and church treasurer. He is known for his joy in life. He was a scoutmaster in Great Bend for Troop 156.
He is survived by his wife of 66 years, Betty Jean Clement Allen; three children, Denise Simon (David), Mooresville, N.C.; Marcia Kimbley, Stafford; and Robert, Denver, Colo.; and two grandchildren, Chelsea and Sarah Simon.  
Memorial services are scheduled at 1 p.m. Friday at Peninsula Baptist Church of Mooresville, N.C., followed by visitation. A Great Bend memorial service is scheduled at 2 p.m. May 12, at First Southern Baptist Church.
