Rolland F. Ladd Goreham 1948 - 2016

GORHAM — Rolland F. “Ladd” Goreham, 89, died Feb. 9, 2016, at the Main Street Manor at the Russell Regional Hospital. Born Aug. 9, 1926, in Yates Center, he was the son of Floyd R. and Pearl E. (Williams) Goreham. On June 15, 1948, he married Joyce E. (Culver) at Yates Center. She died April 5, 2011. He grew up in Yates Center and attended Yates Center High School. In 1952, he moved to Russell and worked for John O. Farmer Oil Company and Shields Drilling Company. In 1986 he moved to Gorham. In his later years he worked for the Rural Gas Service and Holler Electric. He retired in 1992. Up until 2011 he mowed the Gorham Senior Center, St. Mary’s Catholic Church and St. Mary’s Cemetery. Rolland was an avid fisherman and bow hunter. He also liked to build and repair boats for himself as well as other people. It was a family tradition to spend summer weekends and vacations at Cedar Bluff and Lake Wilson, boating and fishing. He and Joyce spent a lot of their retirement fishing at lakes in Kansas and Nebraska.
Mr. Goreham was a United States Army veteran. Entering into the service in October 1944, he was stationed in the Philippines and seeing combat duty he was awarded the Bronze Star. He was honorably discharged in September 1946. He was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Gorham, and a member of the Russell Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 6240.
Survivors include three sons, Roland E. Goreham and wife, Peggy, of Coeur d’ Alene, Idaho, Tim Goreham of Wilmington, Calif., and Robert Goreham and wife, Judy, of Hoisington; two daughters, Rolana Fisk and husband Neal, of Russell, and Mary McCartney and husband Drew, of Gorham; one brother, Larry G. Goreham of Hays; one sister of Donna Soverns, Kansas City, Mo.; 14 grandchildren; and 17 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Joyce of 62 years; and one grandson, Mark Wagner.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Gorham, with military honors by the Russell V.F.W. Post No. 6240. The family will receive friends from 9 to 11 a.m. on Monday, at the church. Memorials are suggested to St. Mary’s Cemetery fund. Condolences can be sent via e-mail to clinesmortuary@eaglecom.net.
