GALATIA — Roscoe John Merry, 83, died Aug. 31 at Clara Barton Hospital, Hoisington. He was born Dec. 23, 1928 at Aurora, Ill., the son of Roscoe Cecil and Henrietta Maye (Howard) Merry.
He married Barbara Louise Ann Strecker March 30, 1977 at Riverton, Wyo.
Mr. Merry was an Otis resident since 2005 coming from Dubois, Wyo. He was a U.S. Navy Veteran and served on the USS Perkins.
He was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church, Galatia, life member of VFW Post 2301 Monmouth, Ill., American Legion and worked as maintenance foreman for U.S. Plywood, Champion International and Louisiana Pacific.
He is survived by his wife Barbara Louise Ann Merry, of the home; two sons, Ronald Lynn Merry, Phoenix, Ariz., Daniel Wayne Merry, Monmouth, Ill.; two sisters, Josephine Holmberg, Monmouth, Ill. and Sharon Miller, Rhinelander, Wis.; one brother, William W. Merry, Monmouth, Ill.; four grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents and two sisters, Beverly McConnell and Eunice Estes.
The memorial service is at 10 a.m. on Tuesday at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Galatia with Pastor Adam Wutka officiating. Inurnment will be held at 11:30 a.m. Sept. 10 at Warren County Memorial Park, LLC, in Monmouth Ill. There will be no public visitation as cremation has taken place.
