NEWTON — Roy League, 77, died May 2, 2014 at Newton Medical Center.
Born on June 8, 1936, in Wichita, he was the son of Kenneth and Mildred (Benckendorff) League. On July 6, 1958, he married Joan Y. Gardner in Andover. They were married for almost 56 years in July. He was a former owner of Parts Incorporated and Industrial Parts in Great Bend. Roy was a big fan and collector of HO scale Trains. He and Joan had moved to Newton recently and he enjoyed all of the train activity in Newton.
He was a great animal lover and had a special fondness for his dogs. He had a great sense of humor and was a very devoted husband and father.
Roy was a veteran of the United States Naval Reserve, achieving the rank of Petty Officer First Class.
He is survived by his wife, Joan League; children, Pam Redinger and her husband, Robert; Mark League and his wife, Lori; Kevin League, Kim Blankman and spouse, Chris; and Mat League and his fiancé, Debbie; 10 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Kenneth and Mildred League.
Memorial services are planned for 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Petersen Funeral Home Chapel. The family will greet friends before and  after the service. A memorial has been set up for the Caring Hands-Humane Society of Newton.
