OTIS — Ruth E. Ochs, 88, died Dec. 15, 2016, in Great Bend. Born Jan. 20, 1928, on the farm in Ellis County, she was the daughter of Wilhelm and Freda (Adolph) Maier.
On June 24, 1951, she married Wilmer Theodore Ochs at Otis. He preceded her in death on April 7, 1981.
A longtime resident, Ruth spent 40 years on the farm north of Otis moving into town in 1992. She loved quilting with friends, reading, crocheting, and crossword puzzles.
Ruth was a member of the Trinity Lutheran Church of Otis and the local quilting club.
She is survived by a son, Stanley Ochs and wife Ann of Hutchinson; a daughter, Sandra Wilkerson and husband Terry of Great Bend; a daughter-in-law, Barbara J. Ochs of Lawrence; a brother, Robert Maier and wife Shirley of Great Bend; a sister, Sharon Dodson of Pratt; four grandchildren: Heather Jones and husband Eric of Hutchinson, Stanley Ochs of Hutchinson, Thomas Wilkerson and wife Andrea of Yukon, Okla., and Tyler Wilkerson and wife Amanda of Pittsburg, Texas; and seven great-grandchildren: Bria, Tre’Vaughn, and Avandre Jones, Katelyn M. Ochs-Burkhart, and Alexandra, Anastasia, and Riley Wilkerson.
She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, a son, Steven Ochs, and an infant brother, Billy Lee Maier.
Prayer service will be 7 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 18, 2016, at Nicholson-Ricke Funeral Home. Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Monday, at Trinity Lutheran Church, Otis, with Reverend Bruce Adamson presiding. Burial will follow in Otis Lutheran Cemetery. Friends may call 1 to 8 p.m. Sunday, with family to receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m., at the funeral home.
