Ruth Lorene Ward, 91, died Aug. 30 at Golden Plains Care Center, Hutchinson. She was born July 15, 1923 at Brownell, the daughter of Jesse Dailey and Sarah Eliza (Rankin) Weathers. Ruth married Floyd Cecil Ward March 13, 1940 at Hutchinson.  He died Jan. 2, 1996. She was homemaker and worked in the kitchen at USD 428 and St. Rose Hospital
Mrs. Ward was a Great Bend resident  most of her life. Ruth was a member of First United Methodist Church, and a former Sunday School Teacher for UR Welcome Sunday School Class.  She enjoyed church volunteer work.
Survivors include two sons: Marvin Ward, Great Bend and Ronald Ward, Great Bend; two daughters: Glenice Nester, Oklahoma City, Okla. and Linda McCowan, Hutchinson;
one brother: Cloyd Weathers , Houston, Texas; two sisters: Ruby Crawford, Pittsburg and Beverly Priest, Yuma, Ariz.; 19 grandchildren and many great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by one son; Milton Ward, one stepson; Floyd Ward, Jr., one daughter; Carol Ives, two brothers; Alvin and  Keith Weathers,  and one sister; Mary Ellen Penick.
The funeral service will be at 10 a.m. on  Thursday, Sept. 4, 2014 at Bryant Funeral Home. Visitation if from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Wednesday, with the family receiving friends from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. all at Bryant Funeral Home. Interment will be at  Great Bend Cemetery, Great Bend.
