HAYS — Sally Schmidt, 56, died Dec. 12 at her home in Hays. Born Feb. 19, 1954, in Great Bend, she was the daughter of George S. and Arliss A. (Belts) Koogle. She married Elmer Schmidt on May 19, 1979, in Great Bend. She attended Barton County Community Junior College and then attended Fort Hays State University where she received her master’s degree in nursing. She was an assistant professor in nursing in the Department of Nursing at Fort Hays State University. On Dec. 2, the Fort Hays State University Honor Society honored Sally for her dedication to teaching and to student achievement.

Mrs. Schmidt was a member of the St. Joseph Catholic Church in Hays.

Survivors include her husband, of the home; her parents, of Hays; and a brother, George S. Koogle Jr. of Edmund, Okla.

Funeral services were held on Dec. 15 at the St. Joseph Catholic Church. Burial was at the St. Joseph Cemetery in Hays. A memorial has been established in her name and memory with the Department of Nursing at Fort Hays State University, and donations may be made in care of the funeral home.
