ELLINWOOD — Sherry A. Karpe, 71, formerly of Liberal, passed away on March 5, at Woodhaven Care Center in Ellinwood. Born Oct. 8, 1943, in Tulare, Calif. she was the daughter of Marvin and Elizabeth (Brownfield) Bell. On Feb. 2, 1967, she was united in marriage to Lawrence H. Karpe in Perryton, Texas. He died on Feb. 2, 2001. The couple lived in Liberal, where Sherry worked as a cook for the Golden Derrick restaurant in Liberal for many years. She enjoyed fishing and spoiling her grandchildren.
Survivors include one son, Leland R. Karpe and his wife, Shauna of Great Bend; seven grandchildren; one great-grandchild; three sisters, Jackie Cortinas of Carson City, Nev., Jann Targnoli of Minden, Nev., and Betty Warren of Liberal; one brother, Charles Jarrell of Boise, Idaho; and nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; and one son, Danny Edney.
According to her wishes, cremation has been chosen. Graveside services will be held at 1 p.m. on Friday at the Liberal Cemetery in Liberal. The family requests that memorials be directed to the family.
