Shirley Ann McClain Rich

Shirley Ann McClain Rich went home to be with Jesus on Aug. 19, 2021. Shirley was born on Aug. 26, 1931. The youngest child of Grover Cleveland McClain and Iris Bell Puckett McClain, Shirley had six brothers and one sister.

She was born in Great Bend, Kan. and graduated from GBHS.

Shirley married Bill W. Rich in 1949. They had five children: Mike, Iris, Bob, Tricia and Julie. She was known for her gentle spirit, servant heart and beautiful alto voice. She was diligent in prayer for her family, and she often said her help was from the Lord. She loved us well.

Shirley sang with her parents, brothers and sister long before she joined the Sweet Adelines, BCCC musical theater, and worship team. She worked as an optician for over 25 years where patient service was her priority. She was an amazing cook specializing in chicken and noodles, fried chicken, and Sunday’s meal, roast, rice, peas and gravy. No matter how many mouths were at the table, everyone went away with full stomachs. She loved good games and her competitive attitude rarely allowed anyone to win – be it a child’s Connect Four or card game of Pitch! And she was always up for a movie and popcorn no matter what time the clock might say.

Her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great grandchildren, brother and many nieces and nephews will miss her. We will all remember her holding our faces and kissing us. Whether we were sad or happy we knew Mom/Grandma/Nana/Aunt would celebrate us or console us.

A graveside service will be held at a later date. Condolences may be sent and notice viewed at www.bryantfh.net.
