Shirley Ann Slater, 86, passed away Dec. 18, 2019, at Hays Medical Center, Hays. She was born on Aug. 6, 1933 at Pratt, to James and Ila (Harrel) Whitaker. She married George Slater on Dec. 14, 1952, at Pratt. He died Dec. 2, 2017.
Coming from Stafford in 1962, Shirley was a Great Bend resident. She was a self-employed hairdresser. She was a member of Central Baptist Church, Beta Sigma Phi Sorority, the Cancer Society and liked spending time at the senior center. She enjoyed walks, KU basketball and especially loved being with her family.
Survivors include, two sons, James R. Slater and wife Utonia of Great Bend and Greg A. Slater and wife Jennifer of Hutto, Texas; three grandchildren, Shannen Slater, Christian Slater and Izzy; one brother, Jack Whitaker; and one niece, Karen. She was preceded in death by her parents; and her husband, George Slater.
Visitation will be held from 1 to 6 p.m., Sunday, Dec. 22, 2019, at Bryant Funeral Home. Funeral Service will be held at 10 a.m., Monday, Dec. 23, 2019, at Bryant Funeral Home, with Pastor Daniel Dugas presiding. Interment will be in the Great Bend Cemetery.
