LARNED — Steven H. Appel, 61, passed away Aug. 17, 2020 at the University of www.beckwithmortuary.comKansas Health System’s Pawnee Valley Campus, Larned.

He was born Nov. 6, 1958 to Harley B. Appel and Nancy Brinkman Appel in Minneola, Kan. They later divorced and Suzanne Appel became his second mother.

Steve and Rogene Kees Appel married Dec. 31, 1979 and had one son, Shane S. Appel.

Steve was known in the area as a John Deere mechanic which he did for 40 years. He graduated in 1976 from Marysville High School but claimed Kinsley as his home town where he attended school up to his last couple of years.

He is survived by his wife, Rogene; one son, Shane (Dana) Appel, Larned; grandmother, Helene Glynn, Marysville; five sisters, Terri (Tim) Fuller, Hutchinson, Sherri (Rickie) Baugh, Phoenix, Ariz., Kelli (Eric) Strichternath, Marysville, Jodi (Kevin) O’Neil, Beattie, Jill (Kevin) Murphy, Stewart, Neb.; brother, Charles Kent Appel, Phoenix, Ariz.; two granddaughters, Aubree (Brandon) Appel, Zahara (Matt) Reason; four grandsons, Zach (Tera) Harper, Zane Harper, Zeth Harper and Jason Owens; one great grandson, Einar Harper, and one on the way. He was preceded in death by his parents.

Cremation has taken place and a memorial service will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 22, 2020 at Beckwith Mortuary Chapel and live streamed via Facebook Live, with Pastor Michael Pfortmiller presiding. Visitation will be 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Friday, Aug. 21, 2020 at Beckwith Mortuary. Memorials may be given to Pawnee County Humane Society in care of Beckwith Mortuary, PO Box 477, Larned, Kansas 67550.
