ELLINWOOD—Theresa Schartz, 73, died Aug. 19 at her home in Ellinwood.  Born May 15, 1939 at Great Bend, she was the daughter of Wendelin and Dorothy (Herl) Herrman.  She grew up in Great Bend, but would later move to Ellinwood after she married LeRoy G. Schartz on Dec. 31, 1955.  He died May 26, 2010.  Mrs. Schartz was a homemaker and a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church of Ellinwood.  She also served with the Altar Society and attended the Prince of Peace Parish of Great Bend.  She was a long term active member of Curves.
Survivors include three sons, LeRoy George Schartz, Jr. and daughter-in-law Sharon (Holcomb), Kevin L. Schartz and his wife Rhea (Applegate) of Ellinwood, and Kyle D. Schartz and his wife Bonny (McLeland) of Great Bend; two daughters, Betty Riggs and her husband Dale, and Lana R. Schartz-Brown and her husband Greg, both of Great Bend; a daughter-in-law, Carol D. (Salmans) Schartz of Great Bend; a sister, Rosaline Herren and three brothers, Hilbert Herrman, Linus Herrman, and  Leo LeRoy Herrman.  She was also blessed with 19 grandchildren: Brent Riggs, Brian Riggs, Dr. Breanne Riggs, Joseph Schartz, Christy Schartz, Shannon Schartz, Leslie Schartz, Aaron Schartz, Seth Schartz, Bailey Schartz, Kaleb Schartz, Tanner Brown, Kaycee Brown, Marcus Brown, Layton Brown, Justin Schartz, Derek Schartz, Andrea Schartz, and Nicole Schartz; 14 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.
She was preceded in death by one son, Dale Eugene Schartz; two brothers, Wendelin Herrman, Jr., and Thomas Herrman; and three sisters, Leona Yarmer, Leoata Sittingdown, and Viola Marie Schartz.
An Altar Society Rosary will be held at 4 p.m., Thursday, Aug. 23, followed at 7 p.m. with a Vigil service, both at Bryant Funeral Home.  A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m., Friday, Aug. 24, 2012 at St. Rose Catholic Church in Great Bend with Father Reginald A. Urban as celebrant.  Interment will be at Hillcrest Memorial Park, Great Bend. A visitation will be held from 9:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m., Thursday, August 23, at Bryant Funeral Home. Memorials may be made to St. Joseph Catholic Church or St. Rose Foundation to benefit the Heartland Cancer Center, in care of Bryant Funeral Home.  Condolences may be sent and notice viewed at www.bryantfh.net
