Thomas M. Keenan 1930-2014


GREAT BEND — Thomas M. Keenan, 83, died June 3, 2014 at Kansas Heart Hospital, Wichita.
He was born Nov. 14, 1930 at Great Bend, the son of Frank James and Hazel C. (Wood) Keenan.
He married Betty (Walters) Clark November 26, 1993 at Great Bend.
He graduated from Fort Hays State College in 1961 with a bachelor of science degree in industrial arts. He was an industrial arts teacher at Great Bend High School from 1962 to 1967. He later worked at Casey’s Office Equipment, Gibson-Titus & Stafford, and Murphy Tractor. Mr. Keenan was a lifetime Great Bend resident. He was a United States Army veteran. He was a member of Prince of Peace Parish at St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church, Knights of Columbus Council No. 862, and was a Children’s International Sponsor. He enjoyed woodworking, hunting, fishing, and gardening.
Survivors include his wife: Betty Keenan, of the home; a son, Greg Keenan and companion Kelly Larson, McPherson; three daughters, Tambra E. Thorson and her husband Mark, Sr., Mission; Carolyn K. Boxberger and her husband Harvey, McPherson; and Beverly Nobraga and her husband Paul, Overland Park; a step-son, Steve Clark and his wife Ann, Fort Lupton, Colo.; a step-daughter, Suzanne Kelley, Lake Charles, La.; a brother, Francis J. “Red” Keenan, Osage Beach, Mo.; six grandchildren, Stephanie Casey and her husband Brad, Wichita; Nicole Boxberger, D.D.S., New Orleans, La.; Jacob Boxberger and his wife Lindsay, Wichita; Dolan Boxberger and his wife Sarah, DeSoto; Mark Thorson, Jr., Mission; and Katherine Thorson, Mission; three great-grandchildren, Cadence Casey, Raegan Casey, and Adalyn Boxberger; five step-grandchildren, Jennifer, Steve , Mindy, Keith, and Jessica.
He was preceded in death by a son, Terry Keenan; and two sisters, Kathleen Casey and Beverly Schaub.
Vigil Service with Knights of Columbus Rosary is scheduled at 7 p.m. Sunday at Bryant Funeral Home. A Mass of Christian Burial is scheduled at 10:30 a.m. Monday at St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church in Great Bend with Celebrant Father Ted Stoecklein. Interment will be at Great Bend Cemetery.
Visitation is scheduled from 1 to 9 p.m. Sunday at Bryant Funeral Home. Memorial Funds are suggested to Holy Family School, in care of Bryant Funeral Home.
