Tracey Christopher Smith, 43, of Great Bend, died Nov. 10 at his home. He was born June 10, 1967, in Great Bend, the son of Melba Jean (Foos) Smith. He was a police officer for the Great Bend Police Department and was administrator for Barton County Youth Care Girls’ Home. He was a lifetime Great Bend resident.

Mr. Smith was a member of First United Methodist Church and American Legion Argonne Post 180. His hobbies included writing, politics, ham radio, and shooting sports. He was a marksman.

Survivors include his mother, Melba "Jean" Smith of Great Bend; one sister, Monica Brothers and husband Jim of Los Alamos, N.M.; two aunts, Freda Broetzmann and husband Ronald of Great Bend and Guilia Foos and husband, the late Eugene "Bud" of Perry; two nieces, Missy Brothers and Mandy Brothers; and several cousins. He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Philip and Esther Foos.

A graveside memorial service will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at Great Bend Cemetery, with the Rev. Tom Sheldon officiant. Inurnment will take place at the Great Bend Cemetery. There will be no visitation, as cremation has taken place. Donations to a memorial fund for the Golden Belt Humane Society may be made in care of Bryant Funeral Home.
