Valeria J. Slankard 1925-2011
Valeria J. Slankard, 86, died April 16 at the Great Bend Health and Rehabilitation Center.
She was born March 11, 1925 in Mount Ida, Ark., the daughter of Luther and Ruth (Rogers) Gibson. On August 12, 1943, she married John Slankard in Great Bend. He died on April 12, 1993. A lifetime resident of Great Bend, she worked for Gibsons Discount Store as a sales clerk. Mrs. Slankard was a member of the First Assembly of God Church in Great Bend.
Survivors include a son, Jonroy Slankard and wife, Rita, Denver. Colo.; two daughters, Lorea Radke and husband, Warren, Wichita; and Genea Potter, Great Bend; six grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday, April 19 at Bryant Funeral Home with pastor Dwight Dozier officiating. Burial will be at the Great Bend Cemetery. Friends may visit from 5 to 9 p.m. Monday, April 18 with the family receiving friends from 6 to 7 p.m. at the Bryant Funeral Home. Visitation is also scheduled from 9 a.m. to service time Tuesday at the funeral home. Memorials are suggested to the Great Bend Health and Rehabilitation Aviary Fund or the First Assembly of God Church, in care of the funeral home.
