Vera Marcile Cross Nicholas 1918 - 2021

JOHNSON — Vera Marcile Cross Nicholas, age 103, died Dec. 5, 2021, at Stanton County Long Term Care Unit. She was born on Nov. 9, 1918, in Colorado Springs, Colo., the daughter of Leroy and Carrie Crabtree Cross. A resident of Stanton County, Kan., since 1928, she was a teacher, homemaker and an active member of the First United Methodist Church in Johnson, Kan.

On June 12, 1940, she married Winfred Nicholas at Johnson, Kan. They enjoyed 62 years together.

Survivors include three daughters, Sharon Frank and husband Jim of Great Bend, Kan., Connie Harder and husband Cliff of Lawrence, Kan., Tammy Bray and husband Doug of Colorado Springs, Colo.; one daughter-in-law, Nancy Nicholas of Johnson, Kan.; two sisters, Lorraine Wearne of Tempe, Ariz., and June Wang of Gilbert, Ariz.; 13 grandchildren; and 27 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband; son, Wendell Nicholas; daughter, Laurel Nicholas; and two sisters, Stena Nicholas and Nell Cross.

A private celebration of life for family only will be held at the First United Methodist Church in Johnson, Kan., on Saturday, Dec. 11, 2021, with Pastor Mary Courtney officiating. For the health and safety of those attending, masks are required. Interment will be at Stanton County Cemetery. Service will be available on Garnand Funeral Home Facebook Page. Public visitation will be Friday, Dec. 10, 2021, from 2 p.m.until 8 p.m. at Garnand Funeral Home in Johnson.
