Vernon Edward Steinert, 92, passed away Nov. 4, 2020, at his home in Great Bend. He was born Aug. 18, 1928, at Galatia, to Edward and Emma (Tittel) Steinert. He married Geneva Popp Oct. 28, 1949, at Great Bend. She survives.
A lifetime Barton county resident, Vernon was the owner and operator of Steinert Oil Company, serving as a bulk agent for Texaco, until his retirement in 1981. Following his retirement, he pursued his heart’s passion, volunteering for the Mobile Missionary Assistance Program until 2008, which allowed them to travel throughout the United States. He and Geneva continued their ministry at Brookdale Assisted Living, through Faith Community Church, leading worship for several years. He was a member of Faith Community Church and a former member of Trinity Lutheran Church where he held many leadership roles.
Survivors include, his wife Geneva Steinert of the home; a son, Marty Steinert and wife Kim of Topeka; a daughter, Mary French and husband Terry of Great Bend; and nine grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Vernon David Steinert; two brothers, Orando Steinert, and Alfred Steinert; and a sister, Olga Wells.
There will be no visitation as cremation has taken place. Graveside services will be held at 1:30 p.m., Saturday, Nov. 7, 2020, at Hillcrest Memorial Park, Great Bend, with Pastor Sandy Kennedy presiding. In lieu of flowers, memorials have been designated to Faith Community Church or Trinity Lutheran Church, in care of Bryant Funeral Home. Condolences may be sent and notice viewed at www.bryantfh.net.
