SALINA — Viola Rosetta (Niedens) Dumler, 94, of Salina, Kan. and formerly of Russell, Kan., went to her Heavenly home, Friday, April 17, 2020 at Brookdale Assisted Living in Salina.

Viola was born March 3, 1926 in Hodgeman County, Kan. She was one of six children born to John Henry and Bertha (Bitter) Niedens. She grew up in the Hodgeman County area and attended school there until moving to Barton County, Kan. as a teenager.

Viola was united in marriage to Victor Leroy Dumler on Dec. 8, 1946 in Milberger, Kan. This union was blessed with three children, Donna, Wanda and Darrell. They made their home on a farm in the Milberger area.

As a devoted farmers wife and homemaker for her children, she also worked as a CNA for home health in the Russell area and also worked in housekeeping at the Russell Regional Hospital. She was an active member in the United Emmanuel Lutheran Church in Milberger. She belonged to the Lutheran Women’s group, Prairiemates EHU and was an active Sunday school teacher and the church choir.

She was active helping Victor with the farm activities, quilting, baking, cooking and especially enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren.

She is survived by her husband of 73 years, Victor of the home; daughters Donna Bitter (Jerry) of Garden City, Kan. and Wanda Radke (Dennis) of Salina, Kan.; sister, Lola Wilks (Ed) of Wichita, Kan.; five grandchildren, Tracy, Darren, Jason, Ryan and Gregg; and 11 great grandchildren. Viola was preceded in death by her parents; son Darrell; three brothers Otto Niedens, Marvin Niedens and Albert Niedens; and sister Leona Karst.

A private family service will be conducted at the Milberger Cemetery. A Memorial Service will be held at the United Emmanuel Lutheran Church in Milberger at a later date. Public viewing will be held on Tuesday, April 21, 2020 at Pohlman-Varner-Peeler Mortuary from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m., the family will not be present. Memorials have been established with the United Emmanuel Lutheran Church or Russell County Food Pantry. Contributions and condolences may be sent to Pohlman-Varner-Peeler Mortuary, who is in charge of these arrangements.
