Virgil J. Jacobs, 83, died Feb. 26, 2017, at Clara Barton Hospital in Hoisington. Born July 24, 1933, in rural Bison, he was the son of Casper and Mary (Schmidt) Jacobs. A lifelong resident of Barton County and Rush County, he was employed by Marlett Homes for 25 years, and the City of Hoisington before his retirement. On May 28, 1976, he married Irene Ehrlich at Great Bend.
Survivors include his wife, of Great Bend; four sons, Thomas Jacobs (Mary Ann) of Phoenix, Ariz., Dennis Jacobs (Nita) of Odessa, Texas, Glen Jacobs of Salina, and John Jacobs (Jane) of Garden City; his grandchildren; his great-grandchildren; his great-great-grandchildren; five brothers, Celestine Jacobs, Ralph Jacobs, Bill Jacobs, and Leroy Jacobs, all of LaCrosse, and Jerry Jacobs of Hays; and two sisters, Elnora Holzmeister of Quinter and Mary Lou Warren of Clearwater. He was preceded in death by his parents; one infant son, Joseph Jacobs; two brothers, Eugene Jacobs and Daniel Jacobs; and four sisters, Leona Leiker, Albina Birney, Viola Dreher and Louise Besperat.
Graveside service will be held at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, March 1 at the La Crosse City Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 6-8 p.m. today at the Janousek Funeral Home in La Crosse.
