HOISINGTON — Virginia Ballard, 82, died Sunday, Sept. 8, at Clara Barton Hospital in Hoisington. Born Jan. 26, 1931 at St. Petersburg, Fla., she was the daughter of Frank Leslie, Sr. and Marilyn Virginia (Young) McEwen.
Virginia was a Hoisington resident since 1965, coming from Hays. She was a homemaker, raised four daughters and attended Trinity United Methodist Church in Great Bend. She enjoyed reading, spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren and was an Elvis Presley fan. She married Robert Ballard Aug. 16, 1950 at Territorial, Hawaii. He preceded her in death on March 30, 2013.
Survivors include four daughters: Barbara Tournear and husband Ron of Great Bend, Debra Giebler and husband Steve of Great Bend, Linda Pringle and husband Steve of Great Bend, Patricia Ballard of Great Bend; one brother: Frank Leslie McEwen, Jr. and wife Doris of Gulf Port, Fla.; seven grandchildren: Dana Baxter and husband Mike of Farmington, Maine, Marcia Dietz and husband Mike of Great Bend, Ann Haase and husband Wyatt of Fairway, Captain Andrew Giebler, United States Air Force, of Washington D.C., Amie Scheuerman and husband Brandon of Ellinwood, Jackie Pringle of Lawrence, Kevin Pringle of Kansas City, Mo.; four great-grandchildren: Alexandra Baxter, Danielle Baxter, Hunter Baxter, Sawyer Haase. She is also survived by two nephews, two great-nephews, and one great niece.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
Funeral service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, Sept. 14, with Pastor Carrie Buhler officiating. Private family burial will follow at Hoisington Cemetery. Friends may call Friday, Sept. 13, from 9:00 a.m. until 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
