Vivian Carol Smith 1931 - 2021

Vivian Carol Smith, 89, of McPherson, KS and formerly of Inman, KS, passed away peacefully on Friday, July 23, 2021, surrounded by family at The Cedars, McPherson. She worked for a telephone company for two years after graduating high school and as a teller at Bank of Inman for 25 years.

Vivian was born on October 12, 1931, in Hutchinson, KS, the daughter of Walfred Cornelius and Mabel Florence (Johnson) Briggs. She graduated from Inman High School in 1949. On February 11, 1951, Vivian was united in marriage to her high school sweetheart, Howard Milton Smith, at the Andover Lutheran Church, Windom.  Two children were born to this union, Perry and Norene.

She was a lifelong member of Andover Lutheran Church, Windom and associate member of Trinity Lutheran Church, McPherson.

Survivors include: her loving husband of 70 years, Howard of the home; a son, Dr. Perry Smith (Krista) of Great Bend, KS; a daughter, Norene Kerschen (Daniel) of Garden Plain, KS; seven grandchildren, Emily Pauly (Ethan), Jon Kerschen (Emily), Rachel Schmidt (Jeffrey), Keith Kerschen, Kim Hay (Marshall), Kelsey Sciacca (Adam), and Mason Smith (Amy Urban); eleven great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

She was preceded in death by: her parents; sister, Betty Mowbray (Duane); half-sister, Opal Racster; and half-brother, Hersal Briggs.

The family will receive friends from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m., Wednesday, July 28, 2021, at Stockham Family Funeral Home. The funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m., Thursday, July 29, followed by a luncheon at Trinity Lutheran Church. A graveside service will be held at 1 p.m., Thursday, at the North Inman Cemetery.
