LARNED — W. Max Howard, 82, died April 17 at Country Place Senior Living in Larned. Born July 28, 1930 in Jewell County, he was the son of Wilbur Frank and Elise Parson Howard Murphy. A lifetime area resident, he was the owner and operator of the Best Western Motel in Larned. On March 8, 1949, he married Faith Kimbrough in Hiawatha. She died on Dec. 13, 1981. On Oct. 30, 1982, He married Alice Larson in Salina. She survives.
Mr. Howard was a member of the Peace Lutheran Church in Albert, the Rotary Club in Larned, the Masonic Lodge in Salina and the Best Western Owners Association.
Other survivors include two daughters, Christina Hagerman of Larned and Catherine Hickman of Wichita; a stepson, Jerre Porter of Rock Springs Wyo.; two stepdaughters, Jeanette Mayfield of Platte City Mo. and Jennifer Byarlay of Randolph; one sister Janice Olson of Seattle Wash.; one brother, Gerry Howard of Sabetha; two grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; one step-great-grandchild; and five step-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. on Saturday at the Beckwith Mortuary Chapel with the Rev. Patricia Reep presiding. Burial will be at the Larned Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m., with family present from 6 to 7 p.m. Friday, at the mortuary. Memorials may be given to the Oaks Children School or donor’s choice in care of the funeral home.
