Wendelin A. Buddy Dinges 1923 - 2013

HAYS — Wendelin A. “Buddy” Dinges, 90, died Oct. 27, at the Hays Medical Center. Born Jan. 16, 1923 in Schoenchen, he was the son of Carl and Christina (Dreher) Dinges. On Aug. 26, 1946, he married Alvera Leiker in Hays. She died in 2011. He worked in construction and at the Higher View Dairy, the LK Dairy, and at the Hadley Regional Medical Center.  
Mr. Dinges served in the United States Army during World War II. He was a member of the St. Nicholas of Myra Catholic Church, the Schoenchen 3rd Degree Knights of Columbus, the Eagles, the Veterans of Foreign Wars and the American Legion.  
Survivors include a son, Kenny Dinges of Hays; three daughters Kathy Montgomery of Hays, Denise Gross and Debbie Witthuhn, both of Bazine; a daughter-in-law Jane Dinges of Victoria; a sister, Elizabeth Wolf of Wimauma, Fla.; a sister-in-law, Olivia Dinges of Aurora, Colo.; 14  grandchildren; and 22 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife, Alvera; a son, Robert; a granddaughter, Emily Gross; two brothers, Antonio and Alex; and six sisters, Henrietta, Flourentine, Isabel, Cecelia, Leona, and Veronica.
A parish vigil service will be at 6 p.m. followed by a Schoenchen 3rd degree Knights of Columbus rosary at 6:30 p.m., both today at the Hays Memorial Chapel Funeral Home, 1906 Pine. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, at the St. Nicholas of Myra Catholic Church in Hays. Burial with military honors by the Hays VFW and American Legion will be at the St. Joseph Cemetery. Friends may call from 4 until 7 p.m. today and from 9 until 9:45 a.m. on Wednesday, all at the funeral home. Memorials are suggested to the St. Nicholas of Myra Catholic Church, in care of the funeral home.
