Wilbert C. Willie Fanshier 1926 - 2016

ST. JOHN — Wilbert C. “Willie” Fanshier, 89, died Jan. 29, 2016, at Stafford County Hospital in Stafford. Born Aug. 2, 1926, in Stafford County, he was the son of Charles M. and Martha A. (Fischer) Fanshier. He was a graduate of Great Bend High School and Kansas State University with a Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering. He worked for a construction company and for Dupont on various projects. He earned his private pilot license, and spent time in the Peace Corps in Venezuela and Yemen. He was a farmer and cattle rancher. He loved to read, play pitch and dominoes, fish, playing softball in Seward and was a philosopher. He loved dogs and the outdoors.
Mr. Fanshier was a United States Army veteran. He was a member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles Aerie #646 in Great Bend.
Survivors include three nieces, Anita “Tulip” Fanshier of Great Bend, Tracy Fanshier and her husband Lonnie Broce of Great Bend, and Jan Day and her husband David of Seabrook, Texas; and great-niece, Emma Day.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. on Thursday at Bryant Funeral Home with the Rev. Dick Ogle officiating. Burial will be at the Great Bend Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m., with the family receiving friends from 6 to 8 p.m., on Wednesday, at the funeral home.
