William Bill Berryman 1944-2013

William “Bill” Berryman, 68, died May 12 at his home in Great Bend.  Born Oct. 31, 1944, he was the son of William Golden “Bo” and Molly Nelvina (Hill) Berryman.  On March 9, 1965, he married Victoria Kay Shoemaker at Newton,  
Mr. Berryman was a Great Bend resident since 1965 coming from Newton.  He began working as a lineman in 1965 for Central Kansas Electric Cooperative, which then became Midwest Energy, Inc.  He climbed the ranks as serviceman, staking engineer and community representative, retiring from Midwest Energy in 2008 after 42 years of service.  
He was a member of First Presbyterian Church, Stone Ridge Golf Club, Golden Belt Community Foundation Board of Directors, Cougar Booster Club, Panther Booster Club, and 4th of July Committee.  He served on the board and was an ambassador for Great Bend Chamber of Commerce and Economic Development, was co-chairman of the 3i show in Great Bend, served on the Great Bend City Council, and was named Citizen of the Year in 2006.
Survivors include is wife, Vicki Berryman, of the home; one son, William Layne Berryman of Cedar Rapids, Iowa; one daughter, Darci Renee Berryman Blum of Manhattan; three grandchildren: Jotni Berryman Pankey, Kialy Berryman, and Jaedyn Berryman and one great-grandchild, Coranda pankey.  He is also survived by his dog, Velvet.  He was preceded in death by two sisters, Ann Steele and Betty Leyerly.
Funeral Service will be held Wednesday, May 15 at 10:00 a.m. at First Presbyterian Church in Great Bend, with the Rev. Dr. Scott V. Solether officiating.  Visitation will be from 9:00 a.m. until 9:00 p.m., with the family receiving friends from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Tuesday, May 14 at Bryant Funeral Home.  Memorials are suggested to First Presbyterian Church or Kans for Kids, in care of Bryant Funeral Home.  Condolences may be sent and notice viewed at www.bryantfh.net.
