William D. “Bill” Mead, 70, died Aug. 30 at his home in Great Bend. He was born Oct. 27, 1942, at Coffeyville, the son of Elmer and Aldine (Randel) Mead. He married Evelyn Bristor July 9, 1961, at Great Bend. Bill was a graduate of Fort Hays State University. He had been a Great Bend resident since 2003, coming from Herndon, Va.
He was a member of First Christian Church in Great Bend, Experimental Aircraft Association and a life member of Ducks Unlimited.
Survivors include his wife, Evelyn, of the home; two daughters, Jackie Lynn Fletcher and her husband Rob of Warrenton, Va., and Julie Ann Sarracino and her husband Louie of Leesburg, Va.; one brother, Bob Mead of Great Bend; and four grandchildren, Katelyn Fletcher, Tyler Fletcher, Riley Sarracino and Rachel Sarracino. He was preceded in death by a brother, Gary Mead.
Memorial service will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 7, at First Christian Church in Great Bend with the Rev. William F. Johnson officiating. Family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. Friday  at Bryant Funeral Home. Memorials are suggested to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, in care of the funeral home.
