William Francis “Bill” Maneth, 81, died Jan. 16, 2015, at Great Bend Health and Rehabilitation Center. He was born March 13, 1933, at Great Bend, the son of William Leo and Mary Teresa (Mauler) Maneth. He married Kay Ellen Dorfshaffer Aug. 24, 1957, at St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church, Great Bend. A lifetime Great Bend resident, he worked for various retail firms around Great Bend as a counter parts man, retiring from Great Bend Farm Equipment in 1996.
He was a United States Army veteran.
Mr. Maneth was a member of Prince of Peace Parish at St. Patrick Catholic Church, where he served as lector and on the Vocations Commission, Knights of Columbus Council No. 862, American Legion Argonne Post 180, B.P.O. Elks Lodge No. 1127, was past member and chairman of the Great Bend Tree Board, and Dominican Sisters Associate. He volunteered for RSVP and EARS and was a volunteer escort at Central Kansas Medical Center.
Survivors include his wife, of the home; two sons, John Edward Maneth and his wife Sandy of Great Bend, and David Scott Maneth and his wife Angie of Maize; one daughter, Jennifer Kay Maneth of Great Bend; three brothers, Paul Maneth of Great Bend, Larry Maneth of Salina, and Ron Maneth of Great Bend; five grandchildren, Samantha Asebedo and her husband Matt of Wilsey, Chad Maneth of Great Bend, Tara Mapel and husband Brian of Hays, Todd Maneth of Raleigh, N.C., and Mary Helen Maneth of Wichita; and two great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by one great-granddaughter.
Vigil service with Knights of Columbus Rosary will be at 7 p.m. Monday, Jan. 19, at Bryant Funeral Home. Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:30 a.m., Tuesday at St. Patrick Catholic Church in Great Bend. Burial will be in Great Bend Cemetery with military rites by Fort Riley Honor Guard. Friends may call from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m., Monday at the funeral home. Memorials are requested to Heartland Cancer Patient Care and Support Endowment Fund or Sunflower Diversified Services, in care of the funeral home.
