William Jacob “Bill” Marcellus 1947 - 2019

HOISINGTON — William Jacob “Bill” Marcellus, 72, passed away November 29, 2019, at Salina Regional Medical Center, Salina. He was born November 28, 1947, in Emporia, to William and Florina June (Davidson) Marcellus, Sr. Bill married Donna Mearl (Dyer) Dec. 17, 1977, at Hoisington. She survives.  

Bill, a resident of Hoisington since 1977, was an accountant for APS and a career band and vocal teacher, teaching in Hoisington, Lewis and Wilson. He also took a lot of pride teaching a period of time in Kenya at a Bible College. Through the course of his working life, he was the pianist for Hoisington public schools, organist for several area churches, substitute teacher, and taught piano lessons. In his spare time, Bill collected stamps and coins, and together with Donna, Bill enjoyed flower gardening. 

Survivors include his wife, Donna; three daughters, Donita Donovan and husband Darrel of Hoisington, Veronica Ludwig of Olmitz, Florina Burns and husband Daniel of Puebla, Mexico; one sister, Margaret Hanson of Emporia; six grandchildren, Justin Ludwig and companion Erin Schmidt, Shawn Ludwig and wife Hannah, Dylan Donovan and wife Andrea, Devan Donovan and fiancée Andrew Hall, Azrielle Burns and Avianna Burns; five great-grandchildren, Aria Donovan, Greyson Donovan, Wrenleigh Donovan, Molly Ludwig, and a great-granddaughter expected to arrive soon. He was preceded in passing by his parents; and a son-in-law, Bob Ludwig.

Funeral Service 2:30 p.m. Monday, December 2, 2019, at Hoisington Bible Church in Hoisington, with Pastor Gary Clark and Pastor Aaron Withrow presiding. Interment will follow at Hoisington Cemetery, Hoisington. Visitation will be 5 to 8 p.m., Sunday, Dec. 1, and 9 to 11 a.m. Monday, Dec. 2, all at Nicholson-Ricke Funeral Home, 415 N. Main, Hoisington. Memorials may be given to Hoisington Bible Church or Clara Barton Hospital Foundation, in care of Nicholson-Ricke Funeral Home, P.O. Box 146, Hoisington, KS  67544.
