COLLINSVILLE, Okla. — Wilthamina (Wilma) Simpson Nagel, resident of Collinsville, passed from this life on Oct. 25, at the age of 85 years. Wilma was born April 2, 1929, in Edinburgh, Scotland, to William and Davina (Taylor) Thomson. She was raised in Scotland, graduating high school there. At the age of 17, Wilma came to the U.S. with her only remaining sister Jane who was a war bride to begin their new life in Cabool, Mo. She later moved to Great Bend, where she began a career as a telephone operator with Southwestern Bell (later AT&T) Telephone. Wilma was united in marriage to Harley William Nagel in Great Bend on Aug. 14, 1955. Because of her husband’s work, they traveled around the U.S. before settling in Tulsa, Okla. in 1980. Mr. Nagel preceded her in death in 1990.
Wilma was a member of the Anglican Church of Saint Paul in Owasso, Okla. She was a lady of varied interests, which included playing Bunco, working crossword puzzles, and in her earlier years, doing oil paintings.
Those that survive and hold cherished memories include her daughter Carla Fishback of Collinsville, Okla.; a grandson Stephen Fishback and wife Chryssi of Twin Lakes, Mich.; a great-grandson Hunter Harley Fishback; niece Dee Hamilton and husband Wayne of Harrisonville, Mo; neice Vikki of Collinsville, Okla.; three great-nephews; one great-niece; and a few very special friends. Besides her husband, Wilma was preceded in death by her parents; a son Ivan Ray Nagel;, a nephew, Curt Baker; and two sisters Jane Baker and Kitty Thomson.
Funeral services were held at 3 p.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 29, in the Chapel of Mowery Funeral Service, Owasso, Okla., with Father Chris Waters officiating. Visitation was held 5 to 8 p.m. on Tuesday evening at the funeral home. Graveside services will be held at 1:30 p.m. on Friday at the Great Bend City Cemetery with Pastor Mark Galbraith officiating. Memorial contributions may be made in Wilma’s memory to Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Awareness, 5005 LBJ Freeway, Suite 250, Dallas, TX 75244.
