GREELEY, Colo. — Wynona W. Gordon, 87 of Greeley, passed away peacefully with her husband by her side at her home on April 25, 2018. She was born in Wichita, Kan., to Carl and Ruth Webb. She married Thomas Gordon on Oct. 7, 1951 in Annapolis, Maryland while Tom was in the military service. She attended Classen High School in Oklahoma City and the University of Oklahoma in Norman where she met Tom. She was a member if Alpha Gamma Delta Sorority and graduated with a degree in Physical Education.
She taught Physical Education in El Reno, Okla. for two years while Tom served in the army in Korea for two years. After he returned, they moved to Great Bend, Kan. where he worked in the oil field, first for Halliburton and then starting his own business.
She was a stay at home mother until their two daughters were in high school and then she bought a book store. It was basically a news stand when she bought it but she turned it into a successful full service store. She sold it after 10 years.
While in Great Bend she was a member and officer in several social, civic and church organizations. She was President of the League of Woman Voters for the state of Kansas, a member of the National Advisory Council of the Regional Medical Program, member and president of the Great Bend School Board, president of Chapter DU of PEO. They moved to Greeley in 1993 where she was a member of PEO chapter BE and an officer in Pan Hellenic and the Philharmonic Guild.
Wynona loved to travel, visiting 66 countries and all seven continents. On returning from one trip she started planning another one. She studied the places we were going and was a great travel companion. She loved skiing and playing gold, both of which were family activities.
She is survived by her husband Tom; daughter Cynthia Wine; grandchildren Preston Yoke, MacKenzie Brown, Chris Madlock, and Stacie Walsh; and great-grandchild Joey Walsh. She was preceded in death by her parents; daughter Carol Yoke; brother, Carl Webb; and grandson Logan Yoke.
A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, May 8, 2018 at Trinity Episcopal Church. Memorial contributions may be made to the Community Foundation, Suncrest Hospice or P.E.O.
