MANHATTAN — Zelma Marie Dodge, 94, Manhattan, passed away on Dec. 09 at Meadowlark Hills Retirement Community. She was born Dec. 10, 1916, on a farm near Hoisington, the daughter of Clara (Bicknell) and Charles Finn.
She received a bachelor’s degree in microbiology from Kansas State University. She also served a Medical Technology internship at Kansas University Medical Center, and received a teaching certificate from Emporia State University. She married Darold A. Dodge on March 22, 1943. He preceded her in death on Dec. 17, 2008.
Mrs. Dodge was a member of St. Thomas More Catholic Church, the American Association of University Women, Daughters of the American Revolution, Retired Educators Association and the Welcome Club of Manhattan.
Survivors include six daughters, Rae Marie Crisel, wife of John, of Zionsville, Ind., Alvena Spangenberg, wife of Kenneth, of Great Bend, Cecilia Smith, wife of Floyd, Newnan, Ga., Beth Warren, wife of Jimmy, of Manhattan, Clare Rehme, wife of Erwin, of Longmont, Colo., and Eileen Rinke, wife of Mark, of Lakeville, Minn. She is also survived by 10 grandsons, five granddaughters and four great-grandchildren.
There will be a rosary at Irvin-Parkview Funeral Home at 7 p.m. on Sunday, Dec. 11, with the family receiving friends from 6:30-8 p.m. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at St. Thomas More Catholic Church in Manhattan at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, with Father Don Zimmerman officiating.
