PROCLAMATION 2012-03 HONORING CHUCK SMITH
WHEREAS, the key link between any governing body and the public is the media; and
WHEREAS, in a small community, the media is represented, traditionally, by the local newspaper and the area radio stations; and
WHEREAS, members of the County’s staff and administration come to know these people and relationships, both professional and personal, develop as the members of the media become an advocate for the public in telling the government’s story; and
WHEREAS, one such advocate was lost when Chuck Smith, News Editor, Great Bend Tribune, died on March 29, 2012.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT PROCLAIMED that the Board of County Commissioners of Barton County, Kansas, do hereby proclaim Monday, April 2, 2012, as CHUCK SMITH DAY; and
WHEREAS, Barton County staff and administration will long remember the accuracy, respect and objectivity of Mr. Smith in reporting local news; and
WHEREAS, our collective sympathy is offered to the family and friends of Chuck Smith.
ADOPTED this 2nd day of April, 2012.
