Harmful behavior needs tough love
Public Forum.jpg

To the editor:

It was Jesus who said, “We should do unto others as we would have others do unto you.” Doesn’t that mean to love them? When we love someone, we don’t allow them to enter into destructive behaviors that can harm themselves or others. If I were doing something that was harmful to myself or others, I would hope someone would say to me, “That is not healthy and you would be better off not engaging in such behaviors’.”

If you love someone you don’t let them continue to harm themselves. When we see harmful or destructive behaviors it’s not always the time to “Try and understand them” or “ How can I be more tolerant of this lifestyle?” Wouldn’t it be best to tell them in a gentle way that their behaviors are not good for themselves and others? So much of what we see today can be harmful to self or others and what we really need to hear is the Truth.
