To the editor:

I would like to thank the Hoisington High School (HHS) students, faculty, and administration for the stellar Veterans Day tribute toda (Nov. 11). The letters to veterans read by third graders Harper Flick, Davanee Husted and Rose Thomas brought tears to several eyes.

A 1996 alumni of HHS, Senior Chief Petty Officer Shannon L. Thomas, retired, gave rousing speech. He gave special thanks to two of his former teachers, Karla Reisner and Debra Lewis, for how they helped mold his character. He challenged everyone, veterans, both retired and active, students and others to serve our country and community, both in our jobs and our volunteer work.

It made this veteran grateful to see two of our high school seniors willing to serve their country. Emily Lovett and Trevan Brown have both committed to serving. Emily in the Army and Trevan in the Marines. May God bless and keep them safe.

The tasty soup lunch and time to visit warmed our bodies and souls were greatly appreciated.
